Buck Mountain and Icy Mist

acrylic on canvas
36" x 54"

A work from a series 1 Place, 2 ways x 10 by Mark and his wife, artist Mary Wipf.  One place, in this case Buck Mountain, is explored, and then each artist responds to the place and hike in their own way.  Ten places have been chosen for this ongoing project, which also includes artworks, artifacts, black & white photos, and journal entries.  The hike to Buck’s summit was in a close ice fog until the last few hundred feet.  Nearing the top, bursting out above the clouds into a brilliantly golden sunshine under a pure blue dome of sky, the day exploded.  Clouds blanketed the entire Black Hills but the highest peaks floated dark above the brilliant white cloud layer.
